Kolbar, (Kurdish: کۆڵبەر) is a term used by locals in Kurdish areas to refer to people who carry stuffs between the two sides of the border to earn a living. Kolbars work mostly in the provinces of West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah and Sistan and Baluchestan.
According to the information of Human Right of Kurdistan, Last year, the Iranian border commander Qassem Rezaei confirmed the shooting at Kolbars and defended the move. He called the Kolbars “border trespassers”, some of them were “deceived” and “some of them are members of the ‘smuggling mafia’ or ‘anti-security mafia’.
Rezaei, like other government and military officials, described kolbars as “detrimental to economic security and the security of society” and attributed his treatment to “people and border residents.”
He said : “Neither the law, not the people, not the border people allow us to tolerate such people,”
Rezaei did not mention that the border peoples were the main victims.
In the past year, in the border areas of West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan and Kermanshah, according to the statistics received from the beginning of the year to the end of this year, at least 170 injured and 75 Kolbars were killed, of which 21 were injured due to falls from heights, frost and Natural disasters have been injured) It is worth mentioning that the border commander mentioned this action, guarding the borders and fighting the villains.
It should be noted that forces stationed in the border areas are shooting at Kolbars under the pretext of transporting smuggled stuffs.
Due to its limited volume and the fact that independent human rights groups are not allowed to operate in Iran, this report cannot fully reflect the human rights situation, the killing and wounding of Kolbars in Iran.
